10 years on deviantart!

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 12, 2012, 2:14 PM
Today marks the 10th anniversary of my being here on Deviantart. Time sure does fly. So many things have happened in the 10 years here both in my personal life and my online persona.

To say that Deviantart has been a part in my life would be an understatement. It has been MAJOR Player in my life. It has lead to my artwork going commercial in a big time. It has lead me to many new friends, many new experiences and much learning.
I have been a Gallery Moderator/Community Volunteer for Wallpapers and Science Fiction Galleries, Admin and Contributor on a myriad of Groups. My experience here has been one of community and friendship, with a few curve balls thrown in. I wouldn't change my last 10 years here for anything in the world.

So THANK YOU to all of my Friends and Watchers, to all of you who have supported my art and given me inspiration and the courage to keep going when I was frustrated, and who yelled with joy with me when my accomplishments finally got noticed. You have been the BEST of friends in the Best of times, and in the worst of times.

To another 10 years.

I LOVE YOU ALL...........

R.I.P Neil Armstrong

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 25, 2012, 1:56 PM
NEIL ARMSTRONG
R.I.P ~ August 5, 1930 - August 25, 2012

Today we mourn the loss of a true hero and icon of a generation, if not an entire century: Neil Alden Armstrong, former NASA astronaut and first person to set foot on the Moon, has passed away due to complications from cardiovascular surgery. Armstrong had recently turned 82 years old on August 5.

I was 15 when he stepped on the Moon. I watched it on TV for hours on end. He was my Hero.

ART REMOVED!!!!!

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 23, 2012, 4:57 PM
YAY! All of the merchandise with my artwork has been removed.  I threatened the seller to report him to EBAY if he didn't remove them and he did... It was a lot faster than if I had to go through all of the hassle that ebay wanted me to go through. Plus if they close him down then he would be up with another account in no time. This way I can monitor him.
Thanks everyone for all of your support!

EDIT: People wondered why I stopped making wallpapers.....and why now when I do make art  or a few new wallpapers, I watermark it. Because I caved in before and didn't watermark because everyone complained it ruined the wallpaper...even when I put a name or sig....now I have to put up with people ripping my artwork, posting it all over the internet without giving me credit, and even cropping off my sig when I did put one. It is frustrating to have to spend hours copying links for over 110 items because some asshole thought it would be cool to try and get away with stealing my art.

MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!  The nerve of some people. This guy is on Ebay  [link] is selling merchandise with my images on it.  And one of the image actually has my name on it: ROF II Nebula by casperium............grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. My ROF II, Cradle Nebula, Fallen Icons Nebula, Nogano Nebula and Saphirefenix are being used on 110 pieces of merchandise......

And EBAY wants you to FAX them a list of the offending items.........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Makes my blood pressure want to explode!

Now that I am not a ^CV anymore, and considering I am coming up on 9 years here on dA, I decided to look through my favorites folder and see who was the first person who's artwork I faved.  As of right now I have 20520 artworks faved.
So the first person that I faved, was of all people, Mr-Frenzy...  Odyssey Of Light W. Edition by *Mr-Frenzy :iconmr-frenzy:
back in June of 2004..
So who was your "First Fave"????

The Tick is coming to steal my hat "^" and replace it with a " ' " tick. What does that mean? It means that today is going to be my last day as a ^CV or Gallery Moderator as they used to be called.
I have had a blast taking care of Wallpapers and the Space and Scifi galleries, and hopefully I can do it again in the future.
Meanwhile I get to kick back and be a normal deviant....hmmm sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it?
So don't send me suggestions for Daily Deviations anymore, those will go to the new Space and Scifi Art ^CV as soon as they are announced.

Gee my journal sure does look empty...... I think I will be needing a NEW Journal skin so if anyone has any suggestions or wants to make me a new one (Space/Scifi oriented) let me know. Reasonable remuneration for anyone that wants to create a new one for me.. I also need a way to display my Commercially Used artwork so that it looks professional and  perhaps in groups relating it to Book Covers, CDs, Merchandise, TV, Movies etc...if you have any ideas send them my way...

It has been great and I want to THANK all of the wonderful people that have sent me suggestions overs the last 15 months for Daily Deviations. I could not have done it without you.
BIG KISSES AND HUGS TO ALL

Well Science Fiction and Space art is going strong and I find more artworks than I will ever be able to give Daily Deviations to.
On my front page you can find a slideshow containing all of the wonderful artworks that have received D.D.'s over the last few months. I found that displaying them that way was easier and gave everyone a second chance at being viewed regardless of when they received them. I hope you agree and go and looks at all of that wonderful art.

I want to thank all of the great deviants that suggest artworks, I couldn't do it without them.

Send me suggestions for Digital Art or Traditional Art that is featured in the Space/Science Fiction (SciFi) galleries. Actually ANY gallery that has something that looks like Space or Scifi I will look at and see if I can give it a D.D.!!
The same rules apply to giving Daily Deviations to these categories as they did for Wallpapers. If you are not familiar with the Rules, then read below and you will find spelled out what I look for in a D.D. suggestion.

:bulletgreen: Send your suggestions to me ^casperium in a note with  suggestions. Also, please add thumbs instead of links.  Please add a brief sentence as to why you think this artwork deserves a D.D. This is not mandatory, but it does help me make decisions.

:bulletblue: You may suggest yourself. I believe in self promotion! :)

:bulletred: Don't suggest pieces from artists who have received a DD in the past 3 months.

And I will try to make sure that not only recent deviations get a chance, but that older ones that lie forgotten and covered by dust bunnies get a chance at shining.

Year in Retrospect

Sat Dec 24, 2011, 3:46 PM

November of last year I finally got to become a ^GM/^CV Community Volunteer as they are called now.  I was really jazzed that I finally could give DD's and write articles and do a lot of things for the Wallpaper Galleries that I always wanted to do.
But a month later right before Christmas I found out that my only sister had Lung Cancer, putting a damper on the Wallpaper things I wanted to do. After all the years of waiting to be one it had to happen now, right when I was going to have to be away for months on end. Of course I wasn't complaining too much, after all my sister got the bum rap of having Cancer. In January I went down to Florida to live with my sister so I could help her get through Chemo and Radiation and all that entailed. While I was down there my father-in-law suffered a fatal heart attack AND a few weeks later my cat had to be put to sleep. Shit was happening left and right and amongst all of the doodoo a nice flower of positive grew, I got a contract from Universal for artwork for a TV show and from a group in the UK for artwork for a movie short about, of all things, a kid dealing with his mother's cancer..........sigh!
Well things started looking up for my sister, although hairless, chemo was not bad and radiation quick and easy. So I pack up and come back home in May now that she was almost finished and doing good.
Summer comes and PET scans reveal no growth, nor shrinkage in her cancer, life expectancy jumped from 18 months to perhaps 3-4 years. Next scan in 8 weeks (mid Sept). Day before she was supposed to have the scan she went to her doctor and started shaking like crazy, off to the ER and an MRI and Pet scan later showed that her cancer had spread to her brain and spine and hips. It was like she had a stroke half of her body was not responding well to movement. A phone call and 2 days later I am back in Florida, and with a diagnoses of perhaps 6 months, even with radiation. 6 months turned into not making it til Christmas, and 8 weeks later into a few weeks, to a few days to 12 hours later she was gone. Nov 20th she passed away.
During all of this I tried to do my best for the Wallpaper galleries, and for the deviants that posted there. It got to be too much, and in October and I transferred over to Space and SciFi galleries and left the Wallpaper in someone else capable hands.
December came and I finally got to come home, driving across the country with my husband and got back home a week ago. Now for the craziness of Christmas shopping and trying to get all of that done. Thank God for my daughter who did most of it while I was in Florida and for my husband who supported me all the way although it meant me away from home for over 8 months of this year.
I couldn't have done it either without the support and help of all of the deviants, admins  and other ^CV's here who sent me suggestions and sent me words of encouragement and prayers.
To those that sent me Christmas cards, while I haven't been able to reciprocate in sending you one back, please know that they brightened my day and made me feel loved and cherished.
So Thank you, all of you, who helped me through this year. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and have a Fantastic New Year to all of you. You have made this year more bearable.
Ali

Driving home

Updates

:bulletred:E-mail me: Ali Ries:bulletred:

Well after being on the road for 6 days I am finally home.
Five nights of hotels and traffic and I am glad to sleep in my own bed tonight. First time in 3 months.
We stayed in Lafayette, LA., Sonora, TX., Casa Grande, AZ., Stockton, CA., and Canyonville, OR..
Anyway I am happy to be home.. Give me a few days to get back to normal. :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hehehehehehehehe this was my hubby dressed up for Halloween to take the Grandkids Trick or Treatin'...lol

Well starting today I am the ^CV for Space and SciFi taking over from Voyager212 :iconmacrebisz:who made us all proud with his quality selections for D.D.'s in that category. I hope I can follow in his shoes and make him proud too.

So from now on send me suggestions for Digital Art or Traditional Art that is featured in the Space/Science Fiction (SciFi) galleries.
The same rules apply to giving Daily Deviations to these categories as they did for Wallpapers. If you are not familiar with the Rules, then read below and you will find spelled out what I look for in a D.D. suggestion.

For the time being until a new Wallpaper ^CV is chosen you can still send me suggestions for Wallpapers too. Once the new ^CV is chosen for that category I will announce it  and send them the suggestions I have filed away. Just remember that every ^CV has their own views on what they think is worthy of a Daily Deviation, and the suggestions sent to me may not be their choices.

:bulletgreen: Send your suggestions to me ^casperium in a note with 1 to 2 suggestions max for the time being. Also, please add thumbs instead of links.  Please add a brief sentence as to why you think this artwork deserves a D.D. This is not mandatory, but it does help me make decisions.

We require that you give us a link directly to the image used in your manipulation/artwork, and not to the Stock providers page. This applies equally to deviantart stock and stock found on other sites. Please make sure the stock is a from a legitimate site, like deviantart, stock exchange (sxc.hu.com )  etc. And remember, just because an image is on the internet, that does not make it stock. AND if you do not know where you got the stock and who it belongs to, do NOT use it. Find a legitimate stock source and use some from there.WALLPAPERS ARE NOT STOCK! NO MATTER WHERE YOU FIND THEM.

Here are the wonderful Daily Deviations given out for the month of September 2011. If you haven't seen them before now I suggest you go take a look at them and show them some deviant love!

September 11th, 2001, a tragedy happened in the USA. It divided us and also brought us together. But one thing it will always be, and that is Remembered. I offer up the Wallpapers so that those of us that wish, can use them on that day to remember the sacrifice made by all of those souls.
Unfortunately I could not find any wallpapers for the Pentagon or for United Flight 93 that went down in Pennsylvania, but know that all are remembered in our hearts.

:thumb147106573:

Because of not having enough wallpapers to depict United flight 93 and The Pentagon, I have included artwork from other galleries that are not wallpapers that art tributes to 9-11.

Here are the fantastic Wallpapers that received a Daily Deviation in the month of August.  If you haven't seen them, go visit them and give them some Love!!!!!

July was an awesome month for Wallpapers. My helpers found some magnificent jewels. If you haven't seen these, please check them out and go give them some love.

Send me your D.D. suggestions, but please follow these few rules:

:bulletblue: Please only send me suggestions from the Customization>Wallpaper Galleries only. Those are the only ones I can feature.

:bulletblue: You may suggest yourself. I believe in self promotion! :)

:bulletred: Don't suggest pieces from artists who have received a DD in the past 3 months.

:bulletblue: I will try to make sure that ALL sub-categories of the Customization>Wallpaper galleries get represented in the D.D. during the course of my year as GM. :)
And I will try to make sure that not only recent deviations get a chance, but that older ones that lie forgotten and covered by dustbunnies get a chance at shining.

In the future I am planning on creating a series of news articles about Wallpapers. If you have suggestions of things you want to see in an article let me know.

I know I will eventually change this around and re-word and re-structure this journal, so if you see it again, it will be an updated version.
As always I am here for you guys.
